The Southside Six!

Well that was a TOUGH one, as I took part in and completed The Southside Six in Glasgow.  It’s a unique event, which links the main parks in Glasgow’s southside (see the map below), covering 16.4miles.  It’s the first time I have completed an event in between half and marathon distance, and I didn’t overly know what to expect, but overall I am very happy with how the race ended up, timing in at 3.10.27

The course was varied, taking in road, path, hill and mud.  The trail areas were a bit tougher, with effective mudslicks to deal with, and the final climb to the finish line in Queen’s Park (allied with the Bellahouston Park steps) making things fun, I am pretty chuffed with how things went.  I aimed at finishing faster than the slowest runner last year (3.40ish), hoped to beat 3.30, dared to think I could beat 3.20 and in the end hit 3.10.   Happy, if sore, Robin.

Well done to the team behind the event, for organising a great day, to the police for closing the roads, to the volunteers, to the other runners, to the ones who helped me round the course when the chips were down.  Bring on next year…

Wondering just how tough the route was?  Wonder no more…
