Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith

For the second time this year I am forced to break my own rules on this sort of post, who could have predicted that the greatest companion of them all would die so young.

The last time Elisabeth Sladen responded to me, she sent nine items for auction, but aside from a generous woman in every way, she summed up so much about Dr Who.  I first met Sarah Jane in the modern series, but now own several of her classic appearances as well, in the pantheon of Dr Who could there be a more definitive companion?  It would appear her illness was shielded from the massive DW fan base as today’s news came as a total shock to everyone.  My thoughts are with Elisabeth’s family and friends, with the Dr Who community at large.  For someone I have never met, it was a strange feeling of emptiness tonight when the news broke.

I sincerely hope the BBC screen those stories which have been filmed, but if not, there is no better way for such a wonderful character to have made her final appearance last year, “Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith”
